June 23, 2026 – All systems are green as the Film Photography Project launches Synth Waves from Space, a collection of cosmic new music with a mission to restore, research and develop defunct and new photographic and motion picture films. Comprised of 10 original synthwave tracks inspired by classic sci-fi films and composed on analog instruments, Synth Waves from Space is the first in a proposed series of original music collections, proceeds from which will help fund the FPP’s research & development division.
Available on vinyl, CD, cassette, 8-Track and Reel-To-Reel formats as well as digital downloads, Synth Waves from Space evolved from an idea to release “a digital album via Bandcamp to support film research,” into a multi-format, fully produced concept album through input from FPP Podcast fans and members of the FPP team, with Owen McCafferty leading the 8-track and Reel-to-Reel formats drive. Synth Waves from Space is composed and produced by FPP Founder Michael Raso, with vocal contributions from Desiree Saetia and original art by Carlos W. Gonzales. The album was manufactured and pressed by GraveFace Records.
Album Description:
Channeling the cosmic unease and space-age optimism of the 1960s into a distinctly retro-futuristic synth-wave experience, Synth Wwaves from Space was deliberately produced using source analog instruments including core tracks composed on a 1978 Tand 60-1022 keyboard and the Realistic Concermate-750. The album filters mid-century anxieties through lo-fi and 1980s technologies creating an immersive soundscape inspired by the science-fiction films from Nigel Kneale’s Quatermass series.
