Mat Marash discusses a cure for G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)

Camera modifications with Mark

FPP News, Listener Letters, Book of the Month and more, more more!

Hunter White interviews Rebecca Shaykin, the assistance curator at the Jewish Museum (1109 5th Avenue at 9th Avenue in New York City) about their exhibit, The Radical Camera: The New York Photo League 1936 – 1951. The exhibit ran from November 4th, 2011 to March 25th, 2012, featuring the work of many members of the Photo League (several of them famous photographers, such as WeeGee). Hunter asks questions about the league, their influence on photo journalism, national impact, the league itself, and the eventual demise of the league through the mid 20th century.

Kodak announced this past month the discontinuation of their E-6 line of films in 35mm and 120 stocks (E100G, E100VS, and Elitechrome) but state that motion picture stocks will not be affected by this. Also black and white and color negative stocks will continue to be produced by the company. Sadly most stores are now running out of the Ektachrome line but they’re still available through the FPP store, or through film give-aways!

Impossible Project has come out with an electronic flash bar for SX-70 series cameras so you don’t have to hunt down flash bulb bars, and it takes only 2 AAA batteries and is nice and compact.

GAS, or Gear Acquisition Syndrome is something we all struggle with, FPP Co-Host Mat presents a cure for this and it’s rather simple!

Book of the Month is Exposure by Mary Ellen Mark. Mat Marrash loves this beautiful coffee table sized book. A book of deep portrait photography by Mary Ellen, it features her work from the 1970s up to the early 21st century. It is mostly black and white photography with some color thrown in. Run, don’t walk to pick up a copy today!

FPP New GuyMark (a Smoove Sailor, and owner of Metropolis Music) talks about his own camera modifications. The basic modification is the installation of a hot shoe onto a Polaroid Automatic 250 Land Camera but it’s the Polaroid back on a No. 1a Kodak that is fairly unique.
